Although our smooth, mild Kashkaval comes from Bulgaria, it is typically from the Balkans, and is also produced in Romania, Hungary, Turkey, Greece, Slovenia, and Croatia. Kashkaval is aged for six months, during which time it develops a slightly tangy flavor with a perceptible hint of olive oil. Needless to say, this sheep's milk specialty is almost always served with olives and is a traditional component to the Balkan diet. One of Kashkaval's unique properties is that it does not melt, making it suitable for grilling. Simply cut some 1/2 inch thick slices of Kashkaval and sauté in olive oil and crushed garlic until lightly browned on both sides.
  • Made from pasteurized sheep's milk.

Delicious Baby Kashkaval
My family loves this cheese, and it is impossible to find in stores. It's great with watermelon. So hard to find in stores. Arrived on time and packed perfectly.

Good Bulgarian cheese
Good cheese. Though uniquely Bulgarian (and to some extent made elsewhere in the Balkans) this cheese is not as good as the same cheese made and sold in Israel. But as those cheeses are not available in the US, this one will have to do.

found at last!!!!
to reiterate couldn't find this cheese anywherefound it on igourmet ordered it my husband is overjoyed to have found the cheese he hasn't had for a long time because no one carried it.he says this is the REAL stuff he hadn't had since many years ago in ny. he had been using what the grocer said was kashkaval, but it really was never as good as he had once. this is!!!!

Tasty cheese, however it does melt
It's a tasty cheese, however, I have to disagree with the igourmet description that says that this cheese doesn't melt. I put it in my skillet expecting it not to melt and wound up with a skillet full of melted cheese. I put it on toast and it was very good but I wasn't expecting it to melt.

Can't beat the price
Very nice for snacking with crackers... in fact, that's where it all went: Lunch with crackers, sausage, and mustard. Excellent value.

In the nick of time!
Was preparing for a big party on Saturday night for forty Bulgarians. Needless to say, it was very important that the Kashkaval arrived in time. [...]. Forty Bulgarians went home licking their lips. Thanks from all of us.

Creamy and slightly sharp
Creamy and sharp, easy to slice and melt. There is a slight sheep flavor, but not too bad. I sliced big slabs and put it on home made pizza, delicious!!

Best cheese I know
This cheese is a bit pungent with a creamy texture. It adds flavor to everything! Great sliced on a cracker, wonderful in baked items - it adds that extra zing to everything without being too strong and overwhelming...Goes great with anything anytime!
