Chabichou du Poitou was first created way back in the eighth century, and has a long and interesting history. One of the most popular cheeses in Arabia, its name is derived from the Arabic word "chebli", which means goat. Today, Poitou-Charentes, situated in the Loire Valley, is the most important goat cheese region of France. This cylindrical cheese, with a hard, yet edible rind and a subtle goat's milk flavor, pairs perfectly with Loire wines such as Sancerre or Pouilly-Fumé. Enjoy it as a dessert cheese or as part of the meal shaved into salads or heated and served atop crusty French bread as an hors d'oeuvre.

Wow!
This was a great goat cheese. I loved the complex texture. It was like it had three layers to it. The smell was also very interesting. It seemed to change every time I smelled it. It seemed to have a perfect balance to it. Firm yet creamy. I used this cheese for a wine and cheese party. Not everyone loved it but it sure was a talking point at the party.

smooth and silky
This is a great flavored cheese. Firm enough to slice, but melts in your mouth. I used it on a flat bread with pancetta, delicious.

Love the texture Love the flavor
I really loved the special texture. Packed with goat flavor. Solid and Rich. Thick and Creamy. Dense and Sweet. Flavorful / Savory but not too Salty. Very nice sliced room temperature or atop Crust Bread melted. Good with Champagne or Sancerre.

Sharply expressive, buttery smooth.
The Chabichou du Poitou was served with crusty french bread. It has a sharply expressive beginning but is buttery smooth and extremely flavorful. This isn't a taste for beginners, but for one who loves an aromatic somewhat pungent taste. It makes for a great appetizer or desert cheese.

I LOVE this cheese
