Looking Glass Creamery is a very small family farm and licensed cheesemaking facility located in Fairview, North Carolina. The business was started by Jennifer & Andy Perkins to produce exceptional, small batch, handmade cheese from goat and cows milk. The Perkins settled permanently in Western North Carolina in 2001 after falling in love with the area on their honeymoon hike of the Appalachian Trail in 1994.

Their hard, aged cow's milk cheese is called Chocolate Lab. It has a firm but not dry interior with a distinctively ridged rind that develops a dusty red color as it is washed in a brine solution over time. The final step of the process is to hand rub each wheel with crushed cocoa nibs from Black Mountain Chocolate blended with Blue Moon spring water. The name for the cheese comes from its friendly nature (with just a little bit of a bite) and its warm chocolate coating. It's hard not to love a Lab!

Not for me
'Just a little bit of a bite' was way too stinky for either nose or palate. Can't believe its pasteurized - tastes too much like raw cow. Not a friendly lab dog nature. Some might like it this strong but I could not eat it. The cocoa adds nothing, suspect is added to try to market this stuff.

Excellent value
I received this cheese last Christmas as a gift-I grew up in the NC mountains where this cheese is produced. My gift came through another company and was more than twice the price of igourmet when I went to buy more. This is my new favorite cheese; slightly nutty;creamy, smooth, but firm texture.I am so happy to find a good source for this cheese.

Very Good
The warm bittersweet cocoa is a nice accent to the cheese - doesn't overwhelm the taste
