The recipe for Panforte, literally "Strong Bread" in English, dates back to the 13th Century. A Tuscan specialty, Chocolate Panforte is made from all-natural ingredients like almonds, chocolate, sugar, wheat flour, honey, nutmeg, cinnamon, and vanilla. It has a heavy consistency, and a chewy, thick texture. Originally a Christmas pastry, Panforte is now enjoyed year-round by Italian cuisine enthusiasts around the world.

This Panforte di Siena comes from Pasticceria Marabissi, a third generation family-run business that is considered to be the most prestigious producer of true Panforte di Siena in Italy. Marabissi makes each of their panforte cakes by hand, using traditional methods and the finest Italian ingredients. Their panforte has won many significant awards.

Note: The bottoms of panforte are coated in wafer paper to keep them from sticking. It does not need to be pulled off of the cake prior to consumption as it is edible.

Takes me back to Sienna
Ever since having panforte in Sienna in October,I had been craving it. I was ecstatic when I found that I could order it online through igourmet.com. I was even more ecstatic when the order came and I tasted it. It is heaven!

Great Dessert
I served this for dessert at a dinner party for six people. It is very rich so one of these in six slices was the perfect size. I put coffee ice cream on top. The coffee flavor and the ice cream was a perfect accent. They do a great job of packaging this item so that it retains a moistness. It comes sealed in a metallic bag underneath the paper. Order this one. You will not be disappointed.

A favorite for all times
Bread of strength is an old and yuumy dessert of snack. Eat it is small slices and savor it. The only con I have is that cocoa on the outside is always messy, but alas it is worth it for this old world treat.

This is an excellent panforte. It looksjust like the picture! Huge nuts and great fruit tones in the bite! Very very good. Beautiful presentation, too.
