Crater Lake Blue Cheese is aptly named after one of Oregon’s greatest natural attractions. The pronounced and vibrant blue veins striated across the creamy white paste mirror the clouds over Crater Lake. This robust blue has a silky paste bright with flavors of sweet cream, red fruit, and a sharp finish. From The Rogue Creamery's inauspicious beginnings in 1935 has come one of the finest artisan cheese operations in the world today. In 2002, Ignazio "Ig" Vella (affectionately known as the Godfather of artisan cheese) hand-selected Cary Bryant and David Gremmels as the new owners of what is now known as The Rogue Creamery. Of utmost importance was to carry on the tradition of hand-milled cheese. Bryant and Gremmels hit the ground running. Within a year, they were producing award-winning cheeses, one of which is the gorgeously named Crater Lake Blue.

Crater Lake Blue, the American Cheese Society's 2004 gold medal winner and more recently, June 2006, took home a bronze medal for foil-wrapped, blue-vein cheese made outside the United Kingdom at the World Cheese Awards. It is a contemporary blue cheese. Robust and sweet with a rich buttery finish, it is best described as a blend of Roquefort and Danish blue cheese recipes. Versatile on a cheese plate or in a special recipe. Its complexity of flavor makes it one of the rare blues that can pair perfectly with both Ruby and Tawny ports. Simply an outstanding cheese, Crater Lake Blue is a terrific example of the craftmanship exhibited by today's American cheesemakers.

A Great New Favorite!!!
Rogue Creamery produces many fine cheeses. This is one of their best!!! (Their Oregonzola is my current favorite blue.) A must for those that aren't fans of strong blues. This is a firm cheese, that to me almost has a cheddar like quality. Not too strong of a bite. Try it, you won't be disappointed!!!

Very good cheese
This cheese is very good. I use it in my balsamic salad dressing. I will be ordering more soon as my family love it.

This is one of the best blue cheeses I have eaten. Drizzled with a little honey and it was dessert.

Excellent blue cheese, for everything from a ribeye, to salad, or just eating with some balsamic! Great domestic cheese from Rogue Creamery.

Best Blue Cheese Ever
We use it in salads, on burgers and as part of a stuffing for portabello mushrooms. We also enjoy it with crackers or pita chips along with cocktails. We've never had a blue cheese we didn't like, but this one is exceptional. It's creamy without being too creamy; it's crumbly without being too crumbly. For a blue cheese it is a bit on the mild side, but definitely a blue.

A Great Cheese!
We ordered this cheese to use as a topping for ribeye steaks, but we liked it so much we ate it all the first night with apples and crackers. It is a fabulous cheese, that goes well with anything. You will not be disappointed with this cheese.

One of the best blues
This cheese is perfect for snacks, appetizers, or simply melted over a burger or steak. It's not pretentious - just a good cheese, with full rich flavor, a superb creamy mouthfeel, and stands up well to any use. I love this cheese!
