Danish Blue cheese was invented early in the 20th century by a Danish cheesemaker named Marius Boel who had a vision of emulating Roquefort. Although decidedly different from its French inspiration, Danish Blue has since become one of the most well-known blue cheese of modern times. It typically comes in a drum shape and has a white to yellowish, slightly moist, edible rind. Made from cow's milk, its fat content is 50-60% fat in dry matter, and it is aged for eight to twelve weeks. Its flavor is creamy with just the right amount of earthiness, yet it is mild enough to accommodate a variety of culinary dishes.

Our Danish Blue is made on the island of Bornholm, in the east of Denmark, close to Sweden and Poland. St. Clemens is the only cheese producer in the world to win the title of World Cheese Champion twice-- in 1980 and in 1998. Danish blue is the consummate salad cheese, excellent crumbled atop a bed a leafy greens and drizzled with balsamic vinegar and extra virgin olive oil. Made from cow's milk, it is a white cheese with a delicate network of blue-green veins. Denmark's rich, green, grazing pastures and fertile soil contribute to the fine, consistent quality of this world-famous product. Danish Blue can be used as a special dessert cheese with fresh fruits like strawberries, pears, or peaches. It is also great in recipes that call for Crumbly Blue or Roquefort.

Latest Customer Reviews for Danish Crumbly Blue

Not as crumbly as usual....
We've ordered this before and the order arrived with a different consistency (actually crumbled.) This order, however, was moister, far less crumbly, but still tasty. The intended use, however, called for "crumbled" and that took some creative chopping and it still was sticky and rather unmanageable (so we've used it to simply melt on things from there on out....)

Very Good Blue
First time purchase for me and just delicious. This blue is used at a restaurant that I frequent so searched internet for it and...voila here it is!! Very nice for just eating on crackers or in dressings.

Very tasty
I love strong flavored cheese and thie one hits the spot. It'd be great in a salad of melted over a steak, I eat it as is.

Excellent, As Expected
This cheese is a recurring purchase for me and, as usual, it does not disappoint. The consistency is a very nice for salads or other toppings. The taste rivals very expensive veined-blues. Please do yourself a favor and stock up every time this item goes on sale. I buy it in bulk and freeze it (not recommended for many applications because the texture changes on thawing but it works fine for adding to sauces and making homemade blue cheese dressing). Buy and enjoy!

Wonderful!
I have always loved blue cheese. I was using Maytag Blue for a long time. I happened to eat at a local high end restaurant and fell in love with the blue cheese they served on several dishes throughout their menu including a home made blue cheese dressing. I was able to get the brand name from the server and found it here on iGourmet. I love this blue cheese and use it for steaks, burgers, potatoes and of course, salad dressing.
