A blend of highly rated Ethiopian Yirgacheffe and Sidamo make for a smooth, strong, and floral roast. This organic, fair-trade roast is the perfect way to jump start your mornings. Ethiopia is known as the birthplace of coffee, and they have plenty of experience in growing the best beans. Many of the beans are sun-dried while still in the coffee cherry, having been picked from wild-looking trees hidden in lush forest. It is these aspects that bring out the unique fruitiness and slightly earthy tones associated with Ethiopian coffees.
This blend comes from the Oromia Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union, made up of 34 member coops spread throughout the central plateau of Yirgacheffe, Sidamo and Jimma. Roaster Dean Cycon worked with Oromia to introduce the first ever Fair Trade, Organic Ethiopian into the U.S. When he brought back roasted 'Oromia Blend' to the farmers, they were delighted. Few had ever tasted their own coffee and none had ever seen it packaged with their name on it. The profits from this fair-trade blend goes into a revolving loan fund that each community can use to build desperately needed water wells in the villages.
