Germans love hearty, dark, nutritious bread that's high in protein. In fact, in Germany there are more than 300 varieties of bread. German breads are made from top-quality whole grain rye flour and are baked slowly in steam-heated ovens; a long process that brings out the bread's distinctive darker color, nutty taste, and moist, firm texture. The baking process is based on century-old baking methods, yet uses high-tech equipment to ensure consistent high quality. Thinly sliced and ready to eat, we offer three varieties of rye: Sunflower Seed, Linseed, and Whole Grain.

German Rye Bread
Purchased all three varieties of the bread and I have tried them all. Cannot pick a favorite because they are all delicious with unique flavors. I will be a repeat customer!

German Rye Bread
This was my father's 'snack' bread, so I grew up with him eating this with plain yogurt! It is a great bread to me, but it is definitely an acquired taste for most. If pressed, I might say it has a nutty, somewhat sour taste, with a flavor not unlike molasses, with a 'dry chew' consistency. Love it with Orange Marmalade! It may be too 'unforgiving' for most, but I love it!

Blech
This was the worst bread I've eaten in a very long time. We love German breads and rye breads having traveled and lived there, but this tasted terrible. I understand it's a hearty bread but we couldn't find anything good about the taste.

Not a fav.....
I love rye bread as does most of my family, yet this was very hard to digest. I purchased 1 sunflower and 1 whole grain, but have only tried the sunflower so far. The sunflower seeds got lost in the bitterness of the bread, can't find words to describe but def. not worth the money.

Had to Toss it in the Trash
Awful taste, smell, texture. Nothing good about this product. If there were a "less than zero" star rating I would give it.

A hearty bread
This bread is very good with cheese or cold cuts. In other words, it is very good the way Germans eat it (for Abendbrot).

I'd pass on this one
Of things I've purchased at igourmet, this is the only item with which I was very disappointed and even embarassed since I sent it as a gift to an elderly aunt. Being a German family, I sent a gift of limburger and rye ... the cheese was excellent, the rye was good enough for the trash basket!
