This extra special delicacy from the Gruyere district of Switzerland is well known as the basic ingredient in fondue. But with its delightfully nutty, spicy, full flavor, it is delicious as a table cheese as well. Upon eating Gruyere, one immediately recognizes the taste of whole milk that is used exclusively in making this grand cheese. We say it is grand because a whole wheel of Gruyere weighs about 80 pounds. In fact, it takes over 100 gallons of milk to make a single wheel of Gruyere! Enjoy this traditional favorite julienned into a chef's salad, melted on a hot open-faced sandwich, or, of course, in a classic cheese fondue. Won the Silver Medal in the World Cheese Awards.
  • Made from unpasteurized cow's milk.
  • Photo depicts whole 70 lb. form of cheese.
  • We cut and wrap this item by the pound.
  • Please contact us if you would like to purchase the whole form.

I was raised in the alps of Switzerland. Best cheese in the world. This site carries the most varied and delicious cheese. Gruyere is my favorite. And they pass the test with me!!! YUM!!! Thank you!

A Nice Gruyere
A nice Gruyere. It melts beautifully ...nice texture, good taste but a bit too salty for my taste. If one likes a salty taste then this is a good one. I prefer the Reserve Gruyere.

Excellent Gruyere!
I'll be buying this again and again! I've been using it to make gougere and it's just fabulous - much better than the rare block of gruyere I find in this area.

we love gruyere
we have had several kinds of gruyere over the years but none as good as we have purchased through igourmet.com in both selection and quality.

Better melted over food
This is much better melted on food, than as a tasting cheese. Word of warning: The odor of this cheese (it's a bit 'stinky') will exude through your pores and you might want to take a capsule of activated charcoal or eat parsley with it to limit the odor coming out of you, haha. That suggestion works when you eat garlic too by the way.
