The fame of Isigny Beurre de Baratte butter goes back to the 16th century. Years later, in the 19th century, the population of Paris alone consumed 800 tonnes of butter a year. How do they explain the fact that the gourmets of the day favored Isigny butter? It is simple! The Isigny terroir has the advantage of a mild, damp climate; is near the sea; and enjoys the benefits of the Bessin and Cotentin marshes. The cows which graze there are fed on grass rich in iodine, beta carotene and trace elements.

The quality of Isigny butter reflects all these natural advantages. It is impossible to confuse it with any other butter. Beurre d'Isigny is yellow like buttercups; it has a faint taste of hazelnuts; contains coarse rock salt; and it is rich in Vitamin A. All of these qualities were noted in the Appellation d'Origine Controle specification, which has been in force since 1986.

Smooth as silk
The salt makes this butter not as much different from the domestic product as I expected, but the richness and touch of salt were very good.

Very Good Butter, But No Coarse Rock Salt
Very good butter, but I haven't found (or tasted) any coarse rock salt so far. Butter arrived only cool, and slightly soft snd melted on one edge. They were packed in the nylon travel cooler I added at checkout. Travel cooler is is not sufficient with the small amount of "ice" that it held to keep the butter propperly cold in transit to Hawaii. This is my 2nd order of butter from Igourmet. The quality and service is good, but no more travel coolers for me!

Delicious Butter - It is not the one with visible rock salt.
We thought we were ging to get the butter with the visible rock salt pieces we had when in France - but this was not that one. However the butter is very nice and we are not too disappointed.

I miss cultured butter...
Very good butter. Only use this for personal use rather than baking. Wonderful with potato dinner rolls... everything! Sometimes I'll just eat it straight... (Please note that I can only do a wee bit at a time, so don't get grossed out...) Definitely will buy again and in greater quantity.

DISTINGUISHED
I have tried butters from many, many countries and dairies...Isigny Beurre de Baratte distinguishes itself from all with its infusion of 'coarse rock salt.'It is served as a special treat to my family and friends.

Yummy!
Very rich and creamy with the right amount of saltiness. This is the first time I had European butter and this lives up to the superior reputation compared to American butters.

Unmatched in flavor and quality. Superior taste to any stateside butter, bar-none. Remove interior "flavor" protective wrapper by leaving butter out of fridge for a while, skins right off

unbelievable
Every time I take another bite of this butter on a slice of baguette, I forget how incredibly good it was the last time. Seriously, it continues to surprise me. Fantastic flavour. Just the right mix of sweet and salty. Very fresh and creamy.
