In the late 1990s, coffee farmer Esteban Sanchez got tired of selling the coffee from his familyís third generation coffee farm to larger local mills, where it was bulked and exported anonymously. Esteban recognized that if he milled the coffee himself, he could better control the quality of his product, and earn more money as part of the bargain. In 2000, he opened his own mill, La Candelilla, one of the first micro-mills in Costa Rica.
Since then, Esteban has established La Candelilla as one of the premiere producers of coffee in Costa Rica. Today he is more committed than ever to delivering the best coffee possible. Esteban is constantly experimenting with new varieties to grow on the farm, along with rigorous wet mill processing controls. This lot is a blend of Caturra and Catuai coffee varietals and represents Estebanís interpretation of a classic "Tarrazu", a profile named for the most famous growing region in Costa Rica. The combination of a producer dedicated to the utmost quality and the hallmark flavors of Tarrazu has had a beautiful result. The coffee is delicate and soft, with bright, clean, citric acidity. Floral and sweet, with bottom notes of orange.
