From the Savoie valley of the Rhone-Alpes, this popular melting cheese takes its name from the French word for "to scrape" - racler - as that is how this cheese was originally enjoyed: placed over heated rocks and scraped onto boiled potatoes and dry-cured meats. These days, most people don't like eating from rocks, so the French have special household appliances called "raclettes" specifically for this purpose. Toaster-ovens will do, too. Heating brings out the best of this fruity, nutty, mildly pungent cheese. No serious cheese lover should be without it!

french raclette
the cheese was smelly and soft but the taste was not near what we expected. we enjoyed it with onions and cornichons bought from igourmet as well which enhanced the flavor. we will purchase this again but hopefully it will be stronger next time like its smell.

Great Service, Great Cheese
Purchased 4 pounds of Raclette cheese. Its good quality and it comes packaged well and ships overnight! The shipping is a bit pricey, but its understandable.

Good but not great Raclette
We enjoyed every mouthful of the melted Raclette but most agreed the flavor was not up to par. The cheese was not as flavorful as it could be.

Excellent cheese
The french raclette we just received was as good as any we've ordered before. However, this piece was cut strangely, not a nice, neat quarter wheel. Last time we ordered 8 1-lb cheeses, and they were in strange shapes, also.

Disappointing lack of flavor
Our family has been purchasing French Raclette from iGourment.com for many, many years. This time, we were very dissatisfied due to the lack of flavor with how mild and bland it tasted. The prices continue to climb and the size continues to shrink. We've enjoyed many other varieties of cheese and been club members over the years. We hope a better source will be found.
