This AOC (name controlled) creamy blue cheese is a lovely French treasure. "Fourme" is the old French word for cheese from the Latin noun forma, describing its cylindrical shape. Ambert is the mountainous town in Auvergne where the cheese is made. The people of this town have been making Fourme d'Ambert since the 7th century! That makes this cheese as old as Roquefort. Fourme d'Ambert is high in moisture and compact in texture, so the blue mould does not spread in veins like other Blues. Rather, it forms in distinct, disconnected pockets. Compared to Blue Stilton, it is much creamier and, therefore, less crumbly. Fourme d'Ambert is cave-aged for a minimum of two months, made from raw cow's milk and has a tremendous, creamy, full-bodied flavor.
  • Made from unpasteurized cow's milk.
  • Photo depicts whole 5.5 lb. form of cheese.
  • We cut and wrap this item by the pound.
  • Please contact us if you would like to purchase the whole form.

Full-bodied bleu cheese flavor without the bite. An excellent cheese! Easy to see why it has been around for centuries!
Good Cheese

I didn't receive my cheese on the date that I was told I would. Even though it arrived late it was fresh. It is a little salty for my taste, but otherwise it is good tasting cheese.
Try it!

I LOVE this cheese. I can't imagine any lover of blue cheese not being delighted with it. Hard to describe all its pluses. If you are looking for crumbly this may not be it. But for spreading on hunk of good bread or a cracker, or for smearing on a juicy steak... Heavenly! Incidentally my delivery was delayed by foul weather, arriving 8 days late. I was sure the cheese would not have fared well. But I couldn't tell the difference between it and previous orders. The packaging is really first rate.

This was a fabulous, creamy blue cheese that went wonderfully with port. Even guests who swore they didn't like blue cheese liked this. I have since reordered several blocks of this. Yummy!!!

Everything they put in the cheese write ups is true and then some. Excellant quality. I ordered 4 different cheeses from igourmet for my husbands 68th birthday. They arrived on time - he was suprised - the cheeses were wonderful and reasonable in price. I will definately order again.

this is a great blue cheese. Really strong and stinky, spreads incredibly well for a Blue. Would purchase again in a heartbeat.
