The secret to Point Reyes Original Blue™ lies in its unique combination of three ingredients. First, grade A unpasteurized milk is taken from a closed herd of Holstein cows that graze on the green pastured hills overlooking Tomales Bay, California. Next, the coastal fog and salty Pacific breezes common to Point Reyes, California conspire in lending the cheese a unique character. Finally, time influences the recipe too. Original Blue™ is made within hours of milking, and then ages for a minimum of six months. The result? A creamier style, full-flavored blue cheese with definite hints of lemongrass and sea salt. For those of us who have fallen in love with Maytag Blue, sample Point Reyes Original Blue™ for a familiar yet distinctly different experience!

Blending tradition and innovation seems to come naturally to California's artisan food producers. This classic collection highlights a few of our favorites from the land where both fresh ingredients and fertile imaginations are in abundance.
  • Cypress Grove's Purple Haze: Fresh goat's milk cheese with lavender buds mixed with wild harvested fennel pollen give it a sweet, addicting flavor. (5 oz.)
  • San Joaquin Gold: The uniqueness of San Joaquin Gold impressed us in both its flavor and texture. It is semi-hard with a natural rind and a sweet, salty, buttery taste. (8 oz)
  • Point Reyes Original Blue: A creamy, full-flavored blue cheese with definite hints of lemongrass and sea salt. (8 oz.)
  • Marich Licorice Pastels: If you are not already familiar with Licorice Pastels, they consist of soft bite-sized chewy licorice covered in a thin sugar shell in pastel colors. (8 oz)
  • Simply Zinful Garlic Salsa: Pear tomatoes, coarsely chopped marinated garlic, herbs, peppers, zesty spices and a generous amount of Zinfandel wine combine to make this gourmet treat. (16 oz)
  • San Francisco Chocolate Tin: The San Francisco Chocolate Factory™ was created to provide chocolate lovers with gourmet-quality, superbly packaged chocolate. The finest quality cocoa beans, gathered and imported from three different continents and selected for consistently superior flavor.(1.79 oz)
  • Busseto Dry Cured Salami: Busseto Dry Salamis are slowly air-dried and seasoned to perfection. (10 oz)
  • Mary's Gone Crackers: These specialty baked items are crisp delicious crackers with a rich nutty flavor. (6.5 oz)

Nestled in among the rolling hills of central Iowa is Maytag Dairy, which produces Maytag Blue cheese. Shortly before World War II, F.L. Maytag II began working with scientists at Iowa State University to begin making a great American blue cheese, modeled after those of Europe. The result was one of the first American farmstead cheeses of superior quality. Maytag cheese makers, however, are still hand making the same cheese that they created in the 1930's. Maytag Blue's popularity has taken off with the growing interest in American farmstead cheeses, and this wonderful, tangy blue cheese is now featured on menus across the country. Its wonderful flavor, moist yet crumbly texture, and lemony finish make Maytag one of the world's great blue cheeses.
