The fame of Isigny Beurre de Baratte butter goes back to the 16th century. Years later, in the 19th century, the population of Paris alone consumed 800 tonnes of butter a year. How do they explain the fact that the gourmets of the day favored Isigny butter? It is simple! The Isigny terroir has the advantage of a mild, damp climate; is near the sea; and enjoys the benefits of the Bessin and Cotentin marshes. The cows which graze there are fed on grass rich in iodine, beta carotene and trace elements.

The quality of Isigny butter reflects all these natural advantages. It is impossible to confuse it with any other butter. Beurre d'Isigny is yellow like buttercups, has a faint taste of hazelnuts, contains coarse rock salt, and it is rich in Vitamin A. All of these qualities were noted in the Appellation d'Origine Controle specification, which has been in force since 1986.

French Butter Arrives Early !
The product is one that I specifically ordered because I am familiar with it. The website made ordering very easy and their description was consistent with what was delivered. It came within 24 hours--very impressive. It was appropriately packed with ice and the individual butters were vacuum wrapped--a great touch. This is the only site I use to order real French butter from Normandy (which in my opinion is the best). I will always order from igourmet.

Isigny butter with coarse rock salt
The best butter that I have been able to obtain and have tasted outside of actually being in France...specifically Burgundy, where I found the butter so wonderful that I wanted to eat it with a spoon.

D'Isigney butter
I have no idea how someone could write that this is a waste of money. I admit, it is not QUITE like the butter that I experienced in The Saturday market in Beaune, not quite as decadent in texture, but, this butter is exquisite, and, my teeth did crunch on the rock salt... Yummy! I am so delighted with this salted butter have tried to order it again and am distressed that it is out of stock. It is butter that you would never cook with...slather it on a good baguette and relish the flavour.

not worth it
So...the description here about this butter is what makes a person want to purchase it. It sounds like you will be able to actually taste the "coarse rock salt" and a butter that has no rival. But it is completely false advertising in our minds. This butter was a total waste of money. It actually tastes NO different than the butter in your local supermarket...AND...there is no "coarse rock salt" detected. Ridiculous waste of money and as a chef who knows great tastes, I would tell you to save your money here.

Divine
This is my favorite French Butter that I have found to purchase in the US. It has a rich flavor and the rock salt gives it a lovely finish. If you miss the flavor of the butter in France - this is worth the splurge!

Very good! Unique Butter!
This was a good butter and unlike anything I've ever had before. Its a nice rich yellow, creamy, and is studded with coarse chunks of sea salt. To me there was an undertone of garlic to the flavor? not a bad thing, in fact delicious on savory items, bread, vegs, meat, etc. ..but I would recommend it with a sweet biscuit, etc.

This butter is so rich and flavorful!! Mine DID have visible rock salt, unlike some other reviewers. Just divine!!
