In 1974, Jean Verrier, was asked to produce a Camembert that was a little out of the ordinary in Normandy, France. Drawing on past experience and longstanding Normandy traditions, Verrier succeeded in developing the celebrated cheese. Today, it is one of France's favorite Camemberts. Camembert Le Rustique unveils a pleasant, tangy fragrance, a creamy, supple texture and a subtle but distinctive authentic flavor that is a sheer delight to the senses.
  • Made from pasteurized cow's milk.
  • Best enjoyed within seven days of delivery.
  • Voted "Outstanding Cheese or Dairy Product" at the 2007 New York Fancy Food Show.

Proper Camembert
I sent this to my brother at Christmas, along with a hamper, and he told me it was quite delicious, and just at the right stage of maturity. We live in France and buy this brand, so it's nice to be able to buy it and share it with our family who live so far away. Thanks igourmet :)

The best
Excellent texture, fully ripened

the real deal
Not anything like other insipid, plasticky camemberts found in grocery stores. This one collapses at room temperature and glides on crackers, breads, or fingers. Flavor is full and friendly to fruits, even crisp raw veggies. A member of our family now.

Enjoyable
Not as tangy as hoped, yet a pleasant treat.

It's not the same...
Even if allowed to come up to room temperature, this cheese is nothing like what I got in France. Pasteurized milk is the problem plain and simple.

Camembert le Rustique
I'm back in Normandy! Leave out for several hours, it will be soooo much tastier when at room temperature!

Best Camembert I ever ate!!
Camembert is always a Holiday treat around here. Generally, I let it ripen about a week more, but this was just perfect.
