There is perhaps no tea on the market today that is as celebrated or as famous as Japanese Matcha. This powdered green tea has been used in the beautifully complex Japanese tea ceremony for centuries. It was believed by the ancient Japanese that tea was a gift of the heavens and, as such, held great restorative and spiritual power here on earth. In fact, an ancient Japanese poet named Sen no Rikyo, considered to be the most important influence on the development of the tea ceremony, or Chanoyu, penned this line during the 1500's, "Though many people drink tea, if you do not know the Way of Tea (Chanoyu), tea will drink you up." The development of the Chanoyu began as a way for human beings to appreciate and show reverence to this power.

This product is a top-quality Japanese Matcha grown in the Izu peninsula, not far from Tokyo. The tea has a bright, emerald green color and when consumed on its own, frothed up with a whisk, has an almost jammy-smoothness belied by a somewhat sweetly astringent cup. The best thing to do with your matcha is experiment to find the best combination of hot (not boiling) water and tea that suits you best. Start with 1/2 tsp of Matcha to 1/2 cup of water and move up or down in strength from there.

  • Imported from Izu.
  • Matcha is a fresh product. Please consume within 30 days.

great price and flavor
This Matcha is very smooth to drink and the flavor is not too over powering like most Matcha's that are available for purchase. Mixes in well with smoothies or even just water.

Izu Matcha tea - 5 star
The Izu Matcha tea is mild and sweet. I have it every morning, afternoon and one with my dinner. It also makes a great ice tea. It arrived promptly and packaged nice and tight. I will be ordering it again soon. Thank you

Green is Good
Just ordered this Izu Matcha for the first time. I am relatively new to the matcha tea world.. as I have only tried one other matcha which was ZenMatcha. This Izu Matcha held up very well indeed to the other and I was well pleased. In my research of this Izu matcha, they say it comes from the Izu Peninsula of Japan. So I did a map search and did indeed find a Izu Peninsula located just south of Tokyo,Japan. I was looking for a product grown in Japan with the hopes of getting a quality product that utilized the unique growing and processing technics which real Japanese matcha is known for. So I did find a very nice product. It comes in a small metal cannister and is not vacuum packed.. but if you consume this tea within 30 days I think you will be fine. Taste was very comparable to the more expensive matcha and I believe it has a nice flavor for this drinking-grade type matcha. I know "drinking grade"...Isn't that what you are supposed to do with tea?...Yes, however there are different grades of the tea depending on the location on the plant where the individual leaves are harvested. The very top young leaves of the tea plant are most coveted and therefore cost more and are processed into what is called "Ceremonial Matcha" which ends up costing a small fortune. This matcha most likely is a blend of upper and middle leaves for this better price. But still a very nice tea indeed...the grind is a bit coarser than the ZenMatcha but this Isu Matcha blended well and I look forward to ordering again. Thanks for this emerald-green Izu Matcha ..green is good.
