The Danish Cheese Institute rediscovered this old recipe in 1951. Previously known as Danish Port Salut, it is now named Esrom, after the monks who made this forgotten cheese in Esrom Monastery. Made from partially skimmed cow's milk, it is slow-ripened with starter cultures for 10-12 weeks. Esrom has an orange, semi-hard rind that has been rubbed with brine during the aging process. Its interior is semi-soft with a supple texture and irregularly shaped holes. It is full-flavored with a big, rich, pungent aroma and becomes spicier as it ages.
  • Made from pasteurized cow's milk.
  • Photo depicts whole 3 lb. form of cheese.

Impressive Service and Delicious Cheese!
This was my first, but not last time for ordering from igourmet. The shipping and packaging were great. The whole form Esrom was still cool when I received it. The cheese was wonderful. A real family treat!

Fabulous Elbodal Esrom!
I just received my first order of whole form Esrom. First, the packaging/shipping was excellent. Now, for the cheese. It is EXACTLY like our family remembered from Europe. The taste and texture are incredible. We sliced it using a 'bread machine' which gave us uniform slices...3 pounds may not be enough until Easter. Thank you "igourmet" for providing this #1 Cheese product for consumers. I will definitely order from your company in the future.

Totally Awesome!
Esrom is easily the most tasty and interesting cheese ever produced! When it’s young and fresh, it is light and creamy, almost like a camembert, but with more taste. As it ages, its flavors and smell become much more powerful, akin to a Roquefort. In every stage it is wonderful! Esrom was once easy to find, now it’s become almost impossible. I’m so delighted that igourment carries it!

A complete loser
A terrible cheese; not the excellent Esrom (Arla) pictured on your web site but a pathetic imitation that was utterly unlike its type and completely without flavor. Either get Arla brand again or remove this item. Failure to do so will seriously damage your reputation.

Great cheese
I buy this cheese "by the bushel", i.e. 3 or 4 full forms at the time. It holds perfectly in the refrigerator. Esrom is a rare treat, but it is often out of stock, most of the time in fact. Since very few stores in the US carry Esrom, cheese lovers like myself must rely on Internet outfits. I-gourmet is doing a good job. Delivery is very timely, last time it was overnight, and cool packaging is perfect.

Great cheese, poor notification
I love Esrom and buy it in whole forms, several at a time. Because it is rarely available. When it is not, Igourmet.com offers a convenient option "notify when in stock". Unfortunately, it does not work. In the many years of my taking that option, I have NEVER been notified.
