Mangalitsa, an heirloom breed of pig once reserved for Austrian royalty, beckons back to a time when hogs were valued for their rich, flavorful fat. Unfortunately, this heritage hog was on the verge of disappearing, as people looked for leaner hogs in sacrifice of flavor. But thanks to the work of grass-roots breeder associations, this hog is coming back! If you're a bacon connoisseur, Mangalitsa Bacon will change your life. This thick, fatty bacon is not for those looking for bland, lean cuts of supermarket fodder. Rich in the "good" fat and high in Omega 3 fatty acids, Mangalitsa fat is mostly monounsaturated and this bacon is full of it! This bacon comes from hogs that are allowed to live outdoors on Mosefud Farm in NJ, on the edge of the Pocono forest. Rich, smoky, meaty and thick cut to showcase the fat, meat flavor and texture, we recommend not cooking this bacon too crisp, lest you lose out on all that makes this bacon coveted.

A Must Have for Me
It has a unique flavor. And the fat is healthy. Save the drippings for cooking other dishes. I order this with every Igourmet shipment. Only problem is that the bacon is folded in the shrinkwrap package

The Best
After discovering the uniques features of Mangalitsa bacon I have tried every brand available by mail. This is definitely the best, There is no taste of salt and the flavor is unique. It is a little pricey but it is worth it.

A repeat Purchase
A new regular in my refrigerator. Unique subtle flavor and healthy too. Slices are longer than most bacon but cooks quicker.

AMONG THE BEST
Great flavor and all the good things other reviews have stated. My only complaint is the packing which has about 2" of each slice folded over, making unwrapping a delicate procedure

My favorite bacon
This is my favorite kind of bacon by far. There is proportionately more fat than what we've become used to, and you don't want to cook it to crispy. The flavor is amazing.

you'll be ruined for other bacon / note the kind of fat!
first, just the flavor will ruin you for any other bacon! But don't be put off by how fatty this bacon is, and think "I prefer meatier"... because of the breed and diet, the Mangalista bacon is primarily monounsaturated fat - like olive oil - not saturated fat. At room temp, the fat is liquid. Much healthier than first assume.

Too Salty
This bacon was way too salty for my taste. In fact that's all I tasted was salt, I couldn't taste the bacon. That's too bad because I was looking forward to trying Mangalitsa bacon.

Delicious
This bacon has avery unique and wonderful flavor. You can taste a hint of sweetness along with the rich, meaty flavor. I'm not sure I'll eat any other bacon after tasting this, except that I can't afford to do so - Well worth the splurge though!

Great, Flavorful, with a Old Fashioned Taste
Before lardo was the rage, this was how bacon was...rich and fatty and flavorful! This is a beastly bacon that makes you want to wrap it around big joints of meat, barding game birds, and big heads of simmering winter cabbage. This is about as far from those limp, flaccid little flesh strips of salty nothingness you get in the store.
