From the 15th-19th centuries, the Austrian Habsburg and Turkish Ottoman Empires competed for dominance in Europe. In 1683, the Ottomans besieged Vienna, the Habsburg capital. The Viennese sent Georg Kolschitzky to the Habsburg troops who forced an Ottoman retreat. When asked to name his reward, Kolschitzky requested bags of strange beans the Turks had abandoned. Kolschitzky had traveled in the East and knew that these were coffee beans. And so the "Blue Bottle" opened, Vienna's first coffee house. Today, there are over 2,000 coffee houses in Vienna.

Helmut Sachers Kaffee was established in Vienna in 1929. Family owned, Helmut Sachers has become synonymous with the art of making excellent coffee. Their Viennese blend is made from specially selected high grown Arabica beans. This Viennese roast is a a degree of roast slightly darker than the traditional American norm, but lighter than espresso, French, or Italian roasts. A full aroma and a fine flavor make this ideal for serving to friends after an elegant meal or just reliving one of the essential flavors of Vienna with a Sacher Torte.

The wrong item
To the best of my knowledge, I ordered the whole beans and not the ground coffee, however, I received the ground coffee. I order the beans because they last longer and I am not a daily coffee drinker. The package arrived safe and in a timely manner. The contents were securely packaged. Other than that, I am satisfied with my order.

Superior to Peet's or Starbuck's
Tried them all, but especially happy for this find. Full body, smooth taste, no bitter or burnt after taste. You get what you pay for.

overall good coffee
I tried this coffee for the first time. It was good but did not have a robust overpowering flavor that could not be drowned with cream. It was to me a medium light roast. Not as good as tchibo from germany in my opinion

A Great European
Great morning wake-up! Smells wonderful when brewing--wakes the house up. Very smooth flavor with no harsh dry/bitter aftertaste.

"A Definate Eye Opener!"
This makes a truly delicious cup of coffee. Your first cup will quickly disappear but drink the second cup more slowly. This blend has a pretty powerful caffeine kick!

GREAT
Great if you like coffee that's on the medium-strong side but not heavy. Is very smooth

Great Coffee
This coffee is very good. It is rich without being bitter, with a great aroma. We brewed it with some cinnamon stick chunks to make "Viennese Cinnamon" flavored coffee. That worked well.

Smell of Vienna
Imagine yourself at a cafe in Vienna sipping on this delicious coffee. We served it with a traditional Austrian Sachetorte. Sehr gut!!!
