The tea part of our mint tea is gunpowder tea. That name is said to come from the fact that the tightly rolled balls of green tea resemble pellets of gunpowder. Green tea loses freshness and flavor over time. The ancient solution to this problem was to roll the leaves into little, pellet-shaped balls. This resulted in the creation of gunpowder tea, and the tradition of rolling the leaves continues today. Gunpowder is the favorite green tea of Morocco and the Middle East, where it is commonly prepared with mint and lots of sugar. We have packed the tea separately from the peppermint that flavors it because the two have a tendency to separate if packed together, due to their difference in weight. You may vary the proportion of tea to mint to create just the flavor you want. The mint can also be used independently to produce a delicious tisane.
