El Tular Organic Fair Trade Whole Bean Coffee
This coffee is produced by Esperanza Garcia. It was grown at her family farm in Achuapa, Nicaragua. 2013 marked the first time these beans were ever exported outside of Nicaragua. This natural processed bean has very low acidity, candied almond sweetness with an oaky finish. It is a rare, nearly forgotten varietal called "Indio". El Tular is a small town of just over 1,000 people located in one of the poorest municipalities in El Salvador, where any residents are agricultural laborers for sugar cane companies. Nicaragua is the largest but most sparsely populated country in Central American and borders Honduras to the north and Costa Rica to the south. Organic, Fair Trade coffee, like El Tular, allows these farmers to avoid selling their beans to the large coffee plantations, and earn a fair price for their crops. Plus, the result is a unique, smooth cup that represents a real "taste of place!"

All of Dean's fine whole bean specialty coffees are certified organic, fair trade and kosher, and are roasted in small batches at his beanery in Orange, MA. Dean knows that the planting, care, harvesting and processing of the beans is done in conformity with international standards for the health of the farmer and his environment, as well as the high quality of the bean. The vast use of pesticides in coffee production has serious impact on the ecology of the coffee-growing world and the health of farm communities. Their commitment to only purchase shade grown coffees supports healthy environments for coffee growers and protects critical migratory bird habitat. It is important to us that the quality of Dean's coffees includes respect for the quality of life of their southern partners in the coffee world. And that respect translates into superb tasting coffee for your pleasure.
