Alfonso Priorelli DOP Umbria Colli Assisi Spoleto EVOO in Tin
This DOP Umbria oil is produced from the following varieties of olive: moraiolo 70%, leccino 15% and frantoio 15%. The olives were all picked from the hills of Assisi and Sploeto. Thanks to the perfect balance of this trio and the milling of the olives before they become completely ripe, Priorelli has achieved an oil with a well-defined aroma and a flavor with a hint of almond and artichoke.

In 1890, at the age of 20, Alfonso Priorelli inherited Podere Castagna Alta Estate from his father. This stunning estate is the "Green Heart" of Umbria amidst the hills of Assisi, Gubbio and Perugia. The estate had seen better days, but the land was good thanks to its clay soil and southern facing slopes providing the ideal conditions for olive growing, in particular frantoio, moraiolo, leccino and dolce agogia. Alfonso reclaimed the land and the 18th century olive trees and planted more. Eventually he reaped his rewards by creating the perfect oil that he called "my green oil".

Today Podere Castagna is run by Alfonso's great grandsons, Massimo and Paolo Pencelli. They planted more trees and have modernized the facility but have remained true to their great grandfather's goal of creating the perfect oil. Their labels are one of a kind, to remember and celebrate their origins Massimo and Paolo decided to use real pictures from the family album.
