Pure Grade A Ohio Maple Syrup by Bissell Farm
The Bissell's have been making maple syrup in Northeast Ohio since the late 1800's. The early pictures and postcards refer to the sugarhouse in Austinburg, OH. The original Bissell Farm was well-known for its apple orchard on Route 45 in Austinburg and later on Route 84 in Saybrook. From 1978 to 1998, David Bissell continued the Bissell tradition at his Route 46 farm in Jefferson, OH until moving the family to the current farm. Today, the sugarhouse is located west of Rock Creek, OH at the family's farm on Higley Road. Each spring they tap 1500 trees for sap, then slowly reduce the sap into this dark and lovely syrup using a wood-fired evaporator. This is the perfect syrup for serving warm, alongside your favorite pancakes, waffles, or biscuits. Whipped with cream cheese, it also makes a fantastic filling for homemade cookie sandwiches!
