The American cheese renaissance is an exciting time for cheese lovers everywhere, with some exceptional blues being produced all across the country. While France has its Roquefort and England has its Stilton, decide for yourself which of these blues will become the King of American Cheeses. This assortment includes:
  • Smokey Blue: A traditional raw-milk blue cheese that is smoked overnight in hazelnut shells. The result is a sweet, nutty flavor that counters the tangy, sharp taste of blue. Made in Oregon. (7.5 oz)
  • Bayley Hazen Blue by Jasper Hill Farm: Bayley Hazen Blue is a natural-rinded blue cheese made with whole raw milk. Aged between four and six months, it is drier and crumblier than most blues. (7.5 oz)
  • Glacier Wildfire Blue: Wildfire Blue is aged for at least 3 months, developing a pleasing blue flavor up front with a peppery finish. The cheese has a soft, crumbly texture and dots of red pepper are sprinkled throughout the blue veining. It makes a great addition to salads and sandwiches, or can be served on cheese boards with roasted tomatoes, peppers, olives and salumi.(7.5 oz)
  • Point Reyes Original Blue: A creamier style, full-flavored blue cheese with definite hints of lemongrass and sea salt. For those of us who have fallen in love with Maytag Blue, sample Point Reyes Original Blue™ for a familiar yet distinctly different experience! (7.5 oz)

Great help on pricing and availability.
Can't review the product itself as it was a gift. But pricing and availability information was confusing on the website. Without very much delay, I was able to talk to a real person and had great assistance in clarifying the situation. Basically the information on the website was not up to date at the time I tried to purchase the gift online. As a result of and before my phone call was over, the information was updated.

American Blues Assortment
The Maytag had great zip or as John Arlott said in Evan Jones book The World of Cheese "essentially a male taste".The Crater Lake was softer ,with less bite. The Point Reyes was as good as I have had when visiting in CA.Great assortment.A blue sheep or goat would be interesting

Very Nice Assortment
Have only tried two of the four blue cheeses to date. Maytag is a standard and quality blue cheese and is a great example to compare with other blues. The Smokey Blue is fabulous; more creamy than crumbly, and has a subtle but not overwhelming smokey flavor. Looking forward to trying the Whiskey and Point Reyes varieties soon. The assortment arrived extremely well packaged and exactly on time. Lots of good communication port-order from iGourmet regarding order/shipping status.

I love all blues, especially American!
I love blue cheese, so of course I loved all of these. The Crater Lake & Maytag are my absolute favorites. All were creamy & flavorful.....I used the Maytag in a mac & cheese recipe. FANTASTIC! We eat blue cheese on crackers (altho I don't care for the water crackers. I want a more complex cracker (multi grain, etc) with my blue cheese. We have also melted all of these into amazing grilled cheese sandwiches, or on top of burgers, or crumbled onto salads. One of our favorites is crumbled on fresh sliced tomatoes, then drizzle with balsamic vinegar. We also enjoy blue cheese with pears.
